Lunch Meet & Greet

Join Charger IEEE for lunch as we welcome Dr. Gorur, the new ECE chair!

Dr. Gorur

Dr. Gorur is an IEEE Fellow, published in over 200 IEEE publications. As a longstanding member of this technical society, Dr. Gorur has invaluable insight into the importance of society membership, particularly for aspiring engineers.

Come meet Dr. Gorur and our student executive board to learn about the unique networking and volunteer opportunities available through IEEE.

Lunch, with vegetarian options, will be provided.

The Student Branch Chair will be available to answer any questions regarding local UAH IEEE membership and the variety of benefits available to student members.

All UAH students of any major are welcome!

Talk with Dr. Piccirrillo
When: Friday, October 18th @ 1:00 pm
Where: Engineering Building Room 258
Description: Dr. Piccirrillo is one of the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department’s experts in Robotics, and he would like to present his previous experiences and current ideas with the IEEE SouthEast CONference (SECON) Hardware Competition.

Lockheed Martin Presentation
When: Monday, October 21st @ 7:00 pm
Where: Engineering Building Room 258
Description: Speakers from Lockheed Martin will be coming to UAH to talk to Charger IEEE. They will discuss the various projects that they work on here in Huntsville. The topics will be: Flight Test Activities, Production, Systems, Customer Relations (primarily THAAD).

Charger IEEE Halloween Party
When: Friday, October 25th @ 6:00 pm.
Where: Engineering Building Room 141 (The IEEE Lab)
Description: Every year, Charger IEEE throws a small Halloween party to allow us to relax from the rough times known as Midterms, and the random projects that we work on. This means that we spend all night playing various games and watching movies. If you plan to attend, bring some food or soda (alcohol is not permitted).

Dynetics Visit
When: Tuesday, October 29th @ 6:00 pm
Where: Dynetics (Specifics TBA)
Description: Dynetics is inviting Charger IEEE to come visit their facilities to learn more about what Dynetics does and possibly go on a tour.
IMPORTANT: Dynetics has requested a list of people who will attend and whether they are US Citizens. They require this information since they do work with US Defense. If you are planning attend, you must let us know at Please let us know your name, whether or not you are a US Citizen, and if not, what your nationality is. Non-US citizens may come to the presentation, but if we go on a tour, they might not be able to join. Sorry for any inconvenience that this causes, but hopefully you decide to come!

IEEE Open House!

The IEEE Open House will be on September 10th at 7:00 pm in Engineering Building room 141. During this time, the members of IEEE will show off various projects that we have done, and future projects that we are currently working on or plan to work on.

Some of the projects that will shown will be:

  • SECON Robots from the past 2-3 years as well as the current competition plans and prototypes
  • XBox360 Kinect camera images being run through a Sobel Edge filter using OpenKinect/libfreenect, SDL, OpenGL, and OpenCL (GP-GPU computing)
  • True Random Number Generator
  • Tesla Coil – A Fall 2009 EE100 Project

IEEE End of Semester Game/Movie Night

Time: Friday 9th at 5:00pm

Where: IEEE Lab – Engineering Building Room 141, UAH

We are having our end of the Summer semester game/movie night this Friday the 9th at 5pm. If you want to come an hour early to setup your console or pc’s that’ll be fine.

Please bring food and drinks.

PCs, consoles (new and classic), games and movies are welcome.

For pc games we plan on playing Team Fortress 2 (Its free on Steam, but you better pre-download it) and any other games that people have like Borderlands, Starcraft, Diablo or maybe Left for Dead. Some of also have Battlefield 3 if we want to play a few rounds.

As for consoles I believe one of our members is bringing a PS3 and a Wii. If you have games for these consoles you want to play please bring them and please bring any extra controllers you might have.

Terraria Night – Friday 18th @ 6:00pm

IEEE will be hosting a Terraria night on Friday, November 18th starting at 6:00pm. Bring your computers, food, drinks and of course don’t forget to download the game from Steam.

Halloween Party Friday

 IEEE will be having our annual Halloween party this Friday, Oct. 28th, from 6:00pm to 11:59pm. All members, students and friends are welcome to attend. We’d like everyone to come in costume, though a costume is not necessary to attend. Please bring drinks*, food, games, consoles and lots of CANDY! We plan on making it a movie night as well so bring your favorite scary movies if you have them, DVD or Blu-Ray, otherwise Netflix will be providing the movies.

Dynetics Talk – Tuesday Oct. 4th

Dynectics will be giving a presentation to IEEE on October 4th at 6:30pm in *** EB Room 122 *** in the engineering building. Meet at our lab (EB Room 141) before 6:30pm for the presentation. The general body meeting will take place after the Dynetics talk. All UAHuntsville students are welcome to attend.
