For me it seemīs like a lot of users are spreading to much garbage everytime they post something. Why are everybody complaining and using so many bad words? If we all try to keep a good tone it will be much nicer for everyone on this board.

I donīt think we have to agree on every subject - but we have to show some respect for another opinions

With the hope of respect for everyone ...

Will we be able to utilize switches on the robot to tell it which frequency our home base is?  That is, will we be able to flip a switch between the coin flip and the hands-off period to tell it which base we're at?

We have failed to locate the hardware competition schedule.
Please let us know the schedule for practice field access, and the competition schedule.

Also, will there by a qualification process before the start of the actual matches, and if so what are the requirements to qualify?

The competition schedule is posted at the bottom of the Student Program page on the SoutheastCon 2008 web site.  The competition will be from 9am to 5 pm Saturday.  The final playoff will be at the society banquet.  Practice fields are 8 am to midnight on Friday and all day Saturday (midnight to 5 pm)

There is a qualification process specified in the Rules.  A compilation has been emailed to all the teams, including a new requirement to move off of Home Base.

Since you said:

"Robots may not actively interfere with one another but
this potential form of stealth or color recognition confusion is permissible."

in response to the question "Are we allowed to paint our robot the same color as the blocks?"

Is it then also permissible to place RFID tags on our robot that are encoded with the same numbers as the RFID tags on the blocks?  You say in reference to color that "this potential form of stealth or color recognition confusion is permissible" so does that mean that this potential form of stealth or RFID recognition confusion is permissible as well?

If not, please explain your reasoning why the color confusion would be legal but the RFID confusion would not.

Placing RFID tags on the robot for the purpose of confusing other robots is NOT allowed.
The difference is that robots have to have some color.  Restricting colors, which may be
school colors, leads to defining colors.  How close to the color used for instance on the BLUE
blocks is allowable ?  Do we have do make a spectrum determination ?  On the other hand,
a robot does not have to have an RFID tag in order to function.

You quote the RS Sku# as 276-143 as a 940nm, 100mA IR LED.  The website part description shows the current as 29mA.  Are they the same part?  Do we design for 100mA through the LEDs given they are rated at 29mA

I checked with Radio Shack and their on-line description is incorrect.  The beacons have been tested at 100ma.

Is there anyway somebody could post the schematics for one of the circuits of the beacons?

It's on the FAQ, response #80,  posted at:

We are looking for some clarification on the rules concerning destructive interference.  Would it be possible to generate an IR signal on the robot that matches the homing beacons' frequencies?

We are concerned because, if this is allowable, we feel it may ruin the spirit of the competition.  There are ways around this, but we feel it should not be required based on the specifications that were given; we are prepared to deal with standard interference (i.e. IR noise, etc), but not this scenario.

No, that is not allowable.  It serves no useful purpose for the functioning of the robot.  FAQ Q&A 89 (recently posted) states:

Q  Are teams penalized for any non-physical interference with another robot?

A.  As. Rule IV - 8 states: "Destructive Interference: A team may not take any action that purposely interferes with the course of play or causes damage to the playing field or competing robot. The penalty for destructive interference is disqualification for that match. " The judges will interpret "purposely" and "interferes". Since the penalty is severe, robot design should preclude engaging in unsportmanlike behavior.

I was wondering what voltage will be applied to the Navigation Beacons, because there will be a voltage drop across each diode.

The important parameter is current, which determines the brightness of the LEDs
We will supply 12 volts across the LED's with a series resistor to limit the current
to 100 ma.
